What Burns the Most Calories?

A post on the week that was in The Biggest Loser House

As seen by the Australian Personal Training Business of the Year – Succeed

Well what a week it has been in The Biggest Loser house this week.

They have done some amazing stuff, and none better than watching the couples go toe to toe in the 10 minute master class challenge.

I believe what Michelle Bridges and Shannan Ponton have done with the new Masterclass is an ingenious idea.

They are giving the contestants the skills and knowledge to make it on their own and survive when they leave the Biggest Loser house.

The more the contestants can learn the better chance they have of keeping the weight off in the outside world.

Obviously life is much easier in the house only having to train, eat, train, sleep. There are no outside influences like all the fast food chains and corner stores (except for temptation anyway), and like it or not I believe Michelle did the right thing to both girls for taking the immunity. She trained them hard and broke them down, but they both really learnt a valuable life lesson for themselves.

Anyway back to the 10 minute challenge.

Shannan and Michelle had the couples pick out of a hat various ways to train for 10 minutes and see who could burn the most calories.

It came as no surprise to me that the couple that won was the group that did the mix up of weights, bodyweight exercises, cardio etc at a very high intensity.

Now obviously it was up to the individuals to train however they thought, and the boys really showed that doing a combined session of weights and cardio really is the way to go. Obviously it depends on what you are trying to achieve for yourself, but for straight out fat burning, working on an interval style training with a mix of weights and cardio really is the way to go.

I recently posted on my site an article about the cardio debate and that is is fast becoming the old fashioned way of cardio is, you can read that here http://www.succeed.com.au/2010/01/the-cardio-debate/

What this little experiment Shannan Ponton and Michelle Bridges did,  shows us that for all those trainers that are out there at 6am slogging away at an outdoor Boot Camp somewhere in their region, if the program is structured properly, they are really on a winner running a Boot Camp style class.

Here is a little demo of a Boot Camp in session:

Boot Camp classes have a fantastic mix of weights, cardio, stretching that should be tailored made to suit the majority share of the 92% of Australians that don’t have or want a gym membership, but want to stay fit and healthy.

Awesome show Shannon and Michelle, keep up the great work.

What do you think is the best form of cardio and burning up the calories?
